People who have recently updated to the current version of the official Reddit app may have noticed that the icon is now pixelated, leaving them to question what the heck is going on.

In order to alter the app’s icon, launch it, tap the profile icon in the upper right corner, select “Settings,” and then select “Change app icon.”

That icon is unique in its appearance. Can you help me out at any time?”

There’s a logic behind the pixelated Reddit app symbol. To sum up, it’s Reddit’s way of advertising the r/Place subreddit, which the site has revived for April Fools’ Day. On April 1, 2017, r/Place launched as an online art exhibit. Users of Reddit may go to the subreddit, fill out a tiny section of a massive digital canvas, and collaborate on a final product.
What’s the catch? A user could only complete one square every five minutes. In spite of the fact that that sounds like a formula for catastrophe, the image you see above was created when more than a million people on Reddit randomly put 16 million coloured squares. It’s a hodgepodge of Rocket League branding, a digital Mona Lisa, national flags, and a likeness of Steve Irwin cuddling a young crocodile.
On April 1st, 2022, Reddit decided to reintroduce r/Place after a five-year hiatus as an April Fool’s Day joke. On April 1, 2022, at 9 a.m. EDT, r/Place will open for business. Logging into Reddit allows you to visit r/Place and place a coloured pixel square anywhere on the canvas as often as every five minutes.
The subreddit r/Place will be open for user contributions until the stroke of midnight on April 5. Although Reddit has not officially stated when the pixelated app icon will be removed, it is likely to return to normal once r/Place concludes on April 5.
