Sony has agreed to acquire Bungie, the developer of the “Halo” and “Destiny” video game franchises, for $3.6 billion.

Bungie’s “world-class approach to live game services and technology knowledge” would be made available to Sony’s games division as part of the agreement, the company stated. Bungie will continue to be a subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment and will continue to function independently.
