Oppo managed to impress everyone with well-built devices that deliver good value for money. The latest Oppo phone in Singapore is the Reno 5 Pro 5G and there is plenty to love about it. While it may look almost identical to the Reno 4 Pro 5G, there are a few changes that will make it an appealing purchase for the ones that are long overdue for an upgrade.
The Hardware
Compared to the 4th generation of Reno phones, the Reno 5 no longer uses a Snapdragon SoC. Instead, Oppo decided to use the Mediatek MT6889Z Dimensity 1000+ chipset. It is an Octa-core CPU setup paired with a Mali-G77 MC9 GPU.
This hardware combination leads to excellent performance even for the most demanding apps despite having modest scores in benchmark tests. It does not try to compete with flagship phones that are twice the price but it delivers more than enough performance for your typical user.
Being the latest Oppo phone in Singapore also brings 5G capabilities. Performance-wise, the chipset delivers 5G transfer rates the same as any other smartphone. There is no apparent network performance loss due to the use of a MediaTek chipset instead of Snapdragon.
The display of the phone is the same as in the Reno 4. Oppo used a 6.55 inch super AMOLED display on the Reno 5 Pro 5G, with 1080 by 2400 resolution, 800 nits (typ), and a 402-pixel density. The refresh rate is limited to 90Hz. That is more than enough to ensure smooth animations, clear text with no visible pixels, and amazing colors.
For the cameras, the setup is identical to the previous generation. The same goes for the size of the phone, display to body ratio, and placement of physical buttons.
What has been changed is the battery capacity. Being the latest Oppo phone in Singapore, the manufacturers focused on improving user experience and adding a larger battery. It comes with a 4350 mAh battery and SuperVOOC 2.0 technology. What this means is that the device can be charged with 65 Watts. In under 30 minutes, it can be charged up to 80%, after which the wattage is decreased to protect the battery.
Why You Should Care About the Reno 5 Pro
The biggest selling point of the Oppo Reno 4 Pro is the price tag. It comes with all the bells and whistles that flagship smartphones come with but at a lower price tag. If there is one thing that could be considered as a negative is the fact that it does not have wireless charging. Being the latest Oppo phone in Singapore, it would make sense to expect wireless charging but this is not the case. The previous generation lacked wireless charging and the Reno 5 Pro lacks it as well.
Leaving the absence of wireless charging aside, the Oppo Reno 5 Pro offers great value for money. It is future-proof in the sense that it supports 5G, has a competent CPU and GPU setup, plenty of storage, great display, and reasonably good cameras. It is a great smartphone today and it will be a decent smartphone even after 2 years of use.
