The primary camera on the Nokia G21 is 50 megapixels (f/1.8, 0.64 micron), and it is joined by a second 2 megapixel camera and a third 2 megapixel camera on the device’s back.

There is an autofocus camera system in the back. Selfies can be taken with the 8-megapixel front-facing camera. The onboard memory of the Nokia G21 is 64 or 128 gigabytes, and it can be expanded with a microSD card (up to 512 gigabytes) via a specially designed slot.

Nokia G21

Android 11 is the OS’s foundation. The Nokia G21 is compatible with both Nano-SIM and Nano-SIM cards, making it a dual-SIM (GSM and GSM) phone. The Nokia G21 is 190.00 grams and has dimensions of 164.60 x 75.90 x 8.50mm. Dusk and Nordic Blue were the debut hues.

About Nokia G21

Launched in India on April 26, 2022 (Official), the Nokia G21 comes in a variety of colors (including Dusk and Nordic Blue) and costs an initial Rs 12,999. The phone also weighs about 190 grams and has dimensions of 164.6 by 75 by 8.5 millimeters.

The Nokia phone has a 6.5-inch (16.51-cm) screen with a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels. The Nokia G21 has a 20:9 aspect ratio, meaning that movies, games, and other media all look sharp and lifelike on the device.

The Octa core (1.6 GHz, Dual core, Cortex A75 + 1.6 GHz, Hexa Core, Cortex A55) Unisoc T606 processor ensures a smooth user experience. The phone has both 4GB and 64GB of internal storage, so you can save as many photos, videos, and other media as you like without worrying about running out of room.

The Nokia G21 has a powerful 5050 mAh battery and the Android v11 operating system, so you can play games, watch movies, and do much more without worrying about the battery running out.

Nokia G21 Design

The Nokia G21 has a somewhat retro vibe, in contrast to the sleek, gradient-patterned backs of other inexpensive smartphones. The phone’s textured back panel and frame are both comprised of plastic. Fingerprints are less likely to stick to this surface.

The package from HMD Global also has a case for the phone. The Nokia G21 has a camera module on the back that is about rectangular. On the top left, in a recess that doesn’t really stand out. The Nokia G21 follows modern design trends by having perfectly flat sides.

The smartphone’s corners have been smoothed off so that they won’t scratch your palm. HMD Global opted for a fingerprint scanner built inside the power button, which is placed on the device’s side. The volume controls are conveniently located on the same side of the phone, albeit a little higher up.

Nokia G21 Specifications and Software

The features of the Nokia G21 are underwhelming. The Unisoc T606 system-on-chip (SoC) provides the juice, and it’s an affordable octa-core 4G SoC with two ARM Cortex-A75 performance cores and six ARM Cortex-A55 efficiency cores, all running at 1.6GHz.

The HD+ screen of the Nokia G21 boasts a maximum brightness of 400 nits and a refresh rate of 90 frames per second. A microSD card slot allows for additional storage space to be added.

Bluetooth v5, dual-band Wi-Fi ac, near-field communication, and three different GNSS systems are all supported. Despite having a 5,050mAh battery and being capable of up to 18W fast charging, HMD Global only includes a 10W charger with the phone.

The Nokia G21 operates on Android 11, and as an Android One device, it is eligible for two years of free software updates from Google. The lack of Android 12, which is what the vast majority of OEMs are providing these days, is still a little letdown.

The Android update I checked on was the May 2022 version. The user interface is largely uncluttered, although I did notice some bloatware in the form of ExpressVPN, LinkedIn, Netflix, and Spotify. You can free up storage by removing these applications.

Nokia G21 Performance and Battery Life

The Nokia G21’s capabilities are adequate, especially considering its low cost. Without a hitch, it ran major apps and casual games alike. However, heavier software, such games, did take longer to load.

The 6GB RAM version I had allowed for some minimal multitasking, but the 4GB RAM version lacked a function that would have come in handy. The fingerprint reader on the device’s side processed authentication requests quickly.

The HD+ resolution screen seemed average as well. Since full-HD+ screens are becoming more commonplace in this market, this may be a deal breaker for some consumers. The results from the benchmarks matched my own personal experience.

The Nokia G21 only managed 198,068 in AnTuTu, while on Geekbench 5 it only got 306 in the single-core test and 1221 in the multi-core test. The T-Rex and Car Chase test suites in the GFXBench graphics benchmark ran at 34 and 8.8 frames per second, respectively.

These results were comparable to those of other budget smartphones in the same price range, such as the Redmi 10 Prime (Review) and the Samsung Galaxy F22 (Review).

Conclusion

HMD Global’s latest low-cost smartphone is the Nokia G21. It claims to have a battery life of three days and to receive two years’ worth of Android OS updates. High refresh rate displays like the one found on the G21 are becoming more widespread in the sub-Rs. 15,000 pricing range.

Brands like Redmi, Realme, and Samsung are constantly trying to one-up one another in this market. The Nokia G21 places a premium on its stock Android experience and large battery in the hopes of attracting purists. If you’re trying to save money, might you look into the Nokia G21? Here is my verdict.
