India’s six-time world champion MC Mary Kom will face Colombia’s Ingrit Valencia on Thursday afternoon.

Mary Kom advanced to the quarterfinals with a 4-1 victory over Miguelina Hernandez of the Dominican Republic, while Ingrit Valencia was given a bye into the round of 16.

The 32-year-old I. Valencia and the 38-year-old Mary Kom are the first female boxers to win Olympic medals for their countries.

The seventh-ranked Mary Kom will compete at Tokyo 2020 without a seed in the 51-kilogram weight class, where the third-seeded I. Valencia is rated eleventh.

In the quarterfinals of the 2019 world championships in Yekaterinburg, Russia, Mary Kom defeated I. Valencia 5–0.

Mary Kom qualified for the Tokyo Olympics through the 2020 event in Amman, Jordan, while I. Valencia qualified through the IOC Boxing Task Force rankings.

Manipuri legend MC Mary Kom succumbed to Colombia’s I. Valencia in the quarterfinals of the 51 kilogramme division at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 on Thursday, scoring a 2-3 defeat.

Indian boxing officials have remarked that bronze medalist Mary Kom gave a terrific performance in Tokyo.

After losing the first two matches, Ingrit finally defeated the Indian boxer.

Mary Kom reportedly did not get off to a great start on Thursday as Ingrit took the initiative early in the match.

The Colombian boxer, 32, used her experience to put Mary Kom, 38, in a hole early on, and she won the first round, 4-1.
