Washington, D.C. Mikaela Shiffrin is hoping for a “reset” in super-G after making mistakes in her two best races.
Though she has never competed in that event at an Olympic level, Shiffrin won the World Championships in 2019.
It is not enough to see who can ski down a mountain the fastest without falling or deviating from the route in alpine skiing at the Olympics. Slalom to downhill to super-G and alpine combined are all examples of different forms of skiing.

What is Super-G
It’s a slalom race with a twist.
Using both downhill and giant slalom techniques, it provides the best of both worlds: There are fewer gates on this course, so skiers have more room to gain speed as they travel downhill.
How Many Super-G Races are There?
The fastest time is awarded to the skier who completes the course in the fewest number of attempts.
The Beijing Olympics’ super-G track measures 1,984 metres in length and features a 540-meter vertical drop.
Super-G is a “Speed” Event, While Slalom and Giant Slalom are “Technical” Events.
There will be plenty of attention focused on Shiffrin during the tournament, but Ester Ledecka is another racer to keep an eye on. While competing in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, South Korea, she became the first person ever to win gold in two different Winter Games events. In China, she has a chance to do it again.
Her snowboard parallel giant slalom victory earlier this week means that she only needs to win in super-G for another remarkable ‘double-double’
What Exactly are the Super-G Rules?
There have been no Olympic super-G competitions for Mikaela Shiffrin, although she did win the 2019 World Championships super-G title.
