Ariana DeBose is a Contemporary dancer who was born on January 25, 1991. SYTYCD’s sixth season included her and she reached the Top 20.

Is This Your First Time Dancing?

As Nautica in the 2011 Alliance Theatre production of Bring It On, Ariana’s career as a dancer on Broadway and Off-Broadway skyrocketed. For the New York Philharmonic’s televised production of Company, she appeared in the ensemble. A national tour was launched in the United States at the end of 2011. DeBose understudied Danielle in the 2012 Broadway staging of her role.

As a substitute for Diana Ross, DeBose played Mary Wilson in Motown on Broadway in 2013. A short time afterwards, DeBose moved on to play Eponine in a regional production of Les Misérables before returning to Broadway to understudy the Leading Player role in the musical Pippin, which she eventually took over briefly in 2014.

For a short time after leaving Pippin, DeBose appeared as the Bullet in Hamilton on Off-Broadway. Later that year, the musical transferred to Broadway, where it became an instant hit. Her performance in the play earned her an Astaire Award nomination for best dancer.

Television Series

Following her departure from the show in July 2016, DeBose appeared as Sophia Ortiz on the television series Blue Bloods and portrayed Daphne in the thriller film Seaside.

As Jane in A Bronx Tale, she made her Broadway comeback in November 2016 and remained there through August 2017. For eight weeks, she presented the Broadway.com vlog Bronx Bullet.

At La Jolla Playhouse in late 2017, DeBose took on the role of Disco Donna for Summer:

Nominated For a 2018 Tony Award

The Donna Summer Musical. In April of 2018, she returned to the stage in a Broadway production of this role. She was nominated for a 2018 Tony Award in the category of Best Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Musical for her work in this production.

Last Words

For her performance as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of West Side Story in 2021 she received a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild, BAFTA, Critics Choice Award and Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. In 2022, she will serve as the Tony Awards host.
